ADVISORY: U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Rachel Levine to visit Delaware on Friday

August 17, 2022

WHAT: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Rachel Levine will visit Delaware on Friday, Aug. 19 to join state Sen. Sarah McBride in highlighting how medical providers and local businesses in the First State are working to support and empower the LGBTQ+ community – especially young people and their families.

A licensed pediatrician, a former Pennsylvania physician general and a four-star admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, Assistant Secretary Levine is the first openly transgender presidential appointee to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate in American history. Sen. McBride, who chairs the Delaware Senate’s Health and Social Services Committee, is the highest ranking transgender elected official in the nation and the first openly transgender member of the Delaware General Assembly.

At 10 a.m. EST, ADM Levine and Sen. McBride will be joined by Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long for a meeting with medical and direct service providers from across Delaware in the chapel at the Herman M. Holloway Sr. Health & Social Services Campus to discuss the work their practices have undertaken to meet the healthcare needs of LGBTQ+ youth and their families.

At 3:30 p.m. EST, ADM Levine and Sen. McBride will meet with Delaware business leaders at Buena Vista to discuss how private employers in the First State are working to foster inclusive and diverse workforces that embrace the LGBTQ+ community.

Both events are open to the press.
