DOVER — Sen. Trey Paradee and House Majority Whip Rep. Ed Osienski released the following joint statement:

“We join the majority of Delawareans who are celebrating the recent announcement that adult-use cannabis sales will begin on August 1.

Thanks to the work of Commissioner Joshua Sanderlin, his predecessor Rob Coupe, the OMC regulatory team and the many dedicated advocates who have kept this issue front and center since we passed the Marijuana Control Act in 2023, all medical marijuana conversion licensees may begin recreational sales next month.

This is a major victory, and marks nearly the last step in a years-long process to end the prohibition on cannabis here in Delaware.

Of course, the enactment of any major policy shift takes time. There may be hiccups during the first wave of sales as retailers adjust to the heightened level of demand, and we hope that customers will understand that it will take time for Delaware’s cannabis economy to operate at full capacity.

As legislative leaders on this issue, we want to hear from you. Whether you are a customer or a retailer, we want to hear your experience with Delaware’s adult-use cannabis sale rollout so that we may better advocate for any needed policy adjustments in the state legislature when we return in 2026.”
