As Chair of the Senate Health and Social Services Committee, Senator Marie Pinkney will convene a Sussex County Medicaid Roundtable to hear directly from healthcare providers, patients, and community advocates about the urgent challenges facing Delawareans in the state’s southernmost counties.
This is the second in a series of statewide discussions focused on the future of Medicaid in Delaware – a continuation of a conversation that began in August, and now taking place against a far more pressing backdrop. States are just now beginning to see the consequences of the cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other social programs as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) and are working quickly to respond.
“Thousands of families across our state are facing a torrent of obstacles – inflation, disappearing benefits, unemployment, and limited access to care,” said Sen. Marie Pinkney. “In Sussex, those realities are magnified. When there is only one practicing OB-GYN serving an entire county, we need to listen and act to understand how we can offer support not just to New Castle County, but to all communities throughout the state.”
The roundtable will bring together these representatives to discuss the unique barriers faced by rural and marginalized populations in southern Delaware. The conversation will center on access to care, provider shortages, and how state and community partnerships can work together to continue care amid the federal uncertainty before us.
This conversation will include panelists from the following organizations:
Ability Network
Bayhealth Medical
Beebe Healthcare
ChristianaCare

Delaware Healthcare Association
