DOVER, DE – Senator Darius Brown joined Friends of the Wilmington Parks on Friday, June 26,  for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the launch of a new all-terrain track chair program. The new mobility device expands accessibility and creates more opportunities for Delawareans of all abilities to experience the state parks.

“This all-terrain track chair represents Delaware’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion for Delaware families,” said Sen. Brown. “Too often, individuals with mobility challenges are unable to experience the outdoors in the same way many of us take for granted. I was proud to partner with the Friends of the Wilmington State Parks to bring these resources to Wilmington so more families can enjoy what we have to offer.”

The all-terrain track chairs program, launched by Delaware Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) in 2024, was first introduced at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark and has been gradually expanding across the state. Alapocas Run State Park has been awaiting their opportunity for a chair since the introduction, but funding secured by Sen. Brown through the Joint Capital Improvement Committee accelerated the timeline and allowed the park to offer this program much sooner than anticipated.

“Alapocas Run State Park is uniquely positioned just miles from Nemours, the Mary Campbell Center, and the Ronald McDonald House – serving many visitors who could benefit from this program,” said Leslie Hubbard, Executive Director of the Friends of the Wilmington Parks. “We are grateful to Sen. Brown for securing the funding that allowed us to receive this chair ahead of schedule. This investment will make a meaningful difference for individuals and families with mobility challenges, and we look forward to welcoming even more Delawareans to experience our parks.”

The track chairs will be available free of charge for all park visitors who require assistance.
