Continuing the restorative justice work of Senator Brown, this legislation expanded employment opportunities in the First State’s prisons to provide incarcerated Delawareans with valuable work experience and job skills they can use to find stable work upon their release.
Passed unanimously by the Delaware General Assembly, Senate Bill 158 also allowed incarcerated Delawareans to be compensated with “good time” credits that can be applied toward a reduction in their sentence under certain conditions.
The addition of good time credits as a form of payment allowed the Delaware Department of Correction to increase the number of people eligible to participate in work programs and enhanced the incentive for those incarcerated in Delaware prisons to seek work opportunities while serving their time.
