Senate Bill 6

Senate Bill 6

In the 1680s, an area of land in Lewes (now known as Cape Henlopen State Park) was set aside to benefit the people of Lewes and Sussex County. After disputes in the 1970s over the state’s plan for land use, the state created the Warner Grant Trust to protect the land’s purpose, and legislation introduced by Senator Huxtable continues to protect this land so it continues to serve the public’s interest.

Senate Bill 6 collaborates with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Control (DNREC) to manage the Warner Grant Trust lands and prioritizes conservation, education, and public recreation for this area. This includes protecting it from private or commercial uses that don’t contribute to the public’s benefit.
