Senator Poore served as the Senate prime sponsor for legislation establishing the Delaware Department of Veterans Affairs.
During the introduction of House Bill 1 in the Senate, Rep. Bill Carson said, “Ninety-nine percent of Americans wake up every morning and enjoy freedom, and one percent wake up every morning to defend it.” As a veteran himself, he has been a long-time advocate for veteran’ care and wellbeing, and as chair of the Veterans Affairs committee, Sen. Nicole Poore shared in his mission.
With over 70,000 veterans who call the state of Delaware home, Sen. Poore and Rep. Carson set out to improve how we handle veteran care, resources, and wellbeing. In their collective effort, they introduced HB 1 in the House and Senate to create a Cabinet-level Secretary to lead a state-level Department of Veterans Affairs. This department will bridge the gap that exists between Delaware veterans and the support they need to succeed.
