Libraries, schools, and bookstores across the country are the targets of the federal administration banning certain reading materials. Books and libraries have always served as a powerful outlet for expression and a conduit of critical thinking, and protecting the right to read is protecting our freedom to engage with the world around us.
House Bill 119, sponsored by Rep. Krista Griffith and championed in the Senate by Sen. Lockman, will ensure that books cannot be banned from schools and public libraries due to partisan, ideological, or religious objections. This legislation also creates a collaboration with state librarians and associations, administrators, and the Department of Education to establish clear processes for banned material.
This legislation will help combat the issue of racial profiling, and increase the trust between the public and Delaware law enforcement.
