In the past year, there has been a 165% increase in administrative Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests of undocumented immigrants. The increased presence of ICE and other federal agents in communities across the country have sparked understandable fear for immigrant populations.
House Bill 182, sponsored by Rep. Mara Gorman and co-sponsored by Sen. Tizzy Lockman aims to protect our vulnerable communities by prohibiting local law enforcement from entering into agreements with ICE for the purpose of enforcing immigration violations or sharing immigrant enforcement related data.
This legislation will help combat the issue of racial profiling, and increase the trust between the public and Delaware law enforcement.
