Senate Concurrent Resolution 87

Senate Concurrent Resolution 87

President Pro Tempore Dave Sokola passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 87 after having a first-hand run-in with license plate theft that left him shocked and charged for violations he did not commit.

Passed unanimously by the Senate and the House, SCR 87 would prevent the misuse of Delaware licence plates and create a plan to assist those victimized by fraud. Through this legislation, a new toll gantry camera system will be implemented throughout the state to increase recognition technology that better identifies false plates.

In addition to this new technology, the legislation also includes a partnership with the DMV to create a “designated point person” that will direct these instances to a singular department knowledgeable with finding solutions. Delaware will also work with neighboring states such as Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland to help resolve issues of inter-state crime and toll violations.
