In response to Tuesday evening’s primary election night results, Senate President Pro Tempore Dave SokolaSenate Majority Leader Bryan Townsend, and Senate Majority Whip Elizabeth “Tizzy” Lockman issued a joint statement:

“Congratulations to New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer for securing the Democratic nomination to be Delaware’s 75th Governor. We look forward to our work together and to supporting him this November at the top of the ticket alongside our Senate colleague, Kyle Evans Gay.

In the years we’ve worked with Senator Gay in the Senate, we have known her to be a fearless champion for women and families — working to expand abortion access, protect voting rights, make childcare more affordable, and codify equal rights for all Delawareans. She has run a positive, issues-focused campaign that has resonated with voters across our state who are excited to elect a new generation of leadership. We’re proud to stand by her in her bid to become Delaware’s next Lieutenant Governor.

We are equally proud of our colleague Senator Sarah McBride’s momentous campaign to represent Delaware in the United States House of Representatives. During her tenure as a state senator, Sarah was instrumental in securing paid family leave for Delaware workers, increasing transparency in government, supporting foster youth, and eradicating lead paint from homes.

Finally, we’d like to acknowledge the indelible public service career of our former Senate colleague Bethany Hall-Long. Tonight’s results in no way diminish her legacy of leadership in our State, particularly in the areas of public health, behavioral health, and as an advocate for working families. We know she will continue to find significant ways to contribute to our State well beyond her successful tenure in public office.”
