DOVER – During today’s Kids Caucus meeting, Sen. Elizabeth “Tizzy” Lockman announced that she would step down as co-chair and that Sen. Dan Cruce would assume the role.
The Kids Caucus is dedicated to advancing policies that support the health, education, safety, and wellbeing of Delaware’s children. Sen. Tizzy Lockman held the title of co-chair for several years, but has relinquished her role to Sen. Dan Cruce, a freshman senator of the First District.
“Advocating for Delaware’s children has always been deeply important to me, and serving as co-chair of this caucus has been incredibly rewarding,” said Sen. Lockman. “Sen. Cruce brings a strong commitment to improving outcomes for families and children, and I am confident he will guide this caucus with purpose. While I am stepping back from this role, my commitment to the wellbeing of Delaware’s children remains strong, and I will continue to support the mission of the Kids Caucus.”
With a long and decorated past working in education and community advocacy, Sen. Cruce has the necessary experience to lead this caucus. His work as Assistant Superintendent of Christina School District, Deputy Secretary of Education, and his current work as COO of United Way of Delaware (UWDE) have given him the needed tools to continue building on the Kids Caucus’ efforts.
As Co-Chair, Sen. Cruce will help guide the caucus’ legislative priorities, and continue to collaborate with advocate groups, educators, and community leaders to help strengthen the outcomes for youth across the First State.
“I am honored to serve as Co-Chair of the Kids Caucus,” said Sen. Cruce. “Ensuring that every child in Delaware has access to quality education, safe communities, and meaningful opportunities is not just good policy, but also an investment in Delaware’s future. I look forward to working with Co-Chair Rep. Deb Heffernan to continue building the foundation that she and Sen. Lockman have established.”
Sen. Cruce commended the work his predecessor Sen. Lockman has accomplished in her role as co-chair over this caucus. “Sen. Lockman has been a steadfast advocate for children and families for many years. Her dedication has moved many important initiatives to the forefront of this Assembly, and I’m grateful to follow in her footsteps.”
The next Kids Caucus meeting will be held on Thursday, April 16 at 11:30 a.m. in the House Majority Hearing Room at Legislative Hall. To RSVP for the meeting, email Lauren Lee at lauren.lee@delaware.gov
