The 1 in 10 Delawareans who have been diagnosed with diabetes are now better able to manage their chronic health condition thanks to legislation passed by Sen. Marie Pinkney that made equipment and supplies significantly more affordable.
Following on the heels of legislation that required insurance companies to cap the cost of insulin at $100 a month, Sen. Pinkney passed Senate Bill 316 to cap the cost of blood glucose meters and strips, urine testing strips, syringes, continuous glucose monitors and insulin pump supplies at $35 a month.
Additional legislation passed by Sen. Pinkney required all insurance plans in Delaware to provide coverage for a medically necessary insulin pump at no cost to their customers.
Both bills passed the General Assembly unanimously.
