Statement from Senate President Pro Tempore David McBride

June 19, 2020

Delaware Senate President Pro Tempore David McBride on Friday released the following statement:

“Yesterday, my colleagues in the House took an important step in preserving our democracy through perhaps the greatest public health crisis of our lifetimes by passing House Bill 346.

As a prime Senate sponsor of HB346, I believe strongly that no one should have to risk exposure to COVID-19 simply to exercise their fundamental right to vote. These vote-by-mail provisions would be effective only for the current election cycle and nothing in this legislation would prevent someone from voting in person, if that’s what they want to do.

That is why I will be placing HB346 first on the Senate agenda for final consideration on Thursday.

In the event the House passes the anti-chokehold legislation House Bill 350 this week, it also will be placed on Thursday’s agenda for final consideration in the Senate.”
