WILMINGTON — The Port of Wilmington Expansion Task Force, chaired by Senator Darius Brown, convened for its final meeting of the year on Tuesday. Members of the committee heard a presentation from Enstructure and discussed updates regarding the proposed Edgemoor Container Terminal project, which will create thousands of high-paying, high-quality jobs in the First State.

The Port of Wilmington Expansion Task Force was joined by Secretary of State Charuni Patibanda-Sanchez, who chairs the Diamond State Port Corporation Board – a body that oversees operations at the Port, as well as the $635 million Edgemoor expansion project.

During executive session, Secretary Patibanda-Sanchez provided updates on the state’s ongoing efforts to advance the project, which presents a significant opportunity for substantial economic growth and investment in Delaware. It marked the first time that a member of the Governor’s Cabinet attended a Port of Wilmington Expansion Task Force meeting since the General Assembly created the body in April.

“The Edgemoor Container Terminal expansion project is one of the most significant economic opportunities in Delaware’s history — a $635 million investment that will create thousands of high-paying jobs, strengthen our supply chain, and position the Port of Wilmington as a leading, state-of-the-art trade hub in our region. Our commitment to seeing this transformative project through remains a top priority for our state,” said Senator Brown.

“Thank you to Secretary Patibanda-Sanchez for taking the time to meet with the Task Force as we close out 2025 and head into the new year. We all believe in a strong Port and recognize the monumental economic opportunity we have at hand. I look forward to this project receiving the necessary approvals it needs so we can break ground and begin construction.”

“For over 100 years, the Port of Wilmington has served the people of Delaware well. It has brought goods from across the sea, local jobs, and opportunity. But our state has grown and changed, and it’s time for the port to follow suit,” said Rep. Frank Cooke, Co-Chair of the Port of Wilmington Expansion Task Force.

“The $635 million Edgemoor expansion project is not only a chance for us to create thousands of high-paying jobs, high-quality jobs for Delawareans, but also to invest in an industry that has served our state well for decades. This is not something that was thought up overnight, and it’s not something that we’re going to leave in untrustworthy hands. I am grateful to my fellow members of the Port of Wilmington Expansion Task Force, Secretary of State Charuni Patibanda-Sanchez who joined us at our final meeting of the year, and everyone who has shared their knowledge and expertise with us. We will make this port great, together.”
