DOVER — Senate President Pro Tempore-elect Dave Sokola announced the slate of Senate committee assignments on Tuesday for the upcoming 153rd General Assembly.
“The Senate is ready to hit the ground running on Day One of the new legislative session,” Sokola said. “Our committee roster reflects the range of professional, personal, and legislative backgrounds that each of our 21 Senators bring to the table.”
With the pending departure of Lieutenant Governor-elect Kyle Evans Gay and Congresswoman-elect Sarah McBride from the Senate Majority Caucus, there will be some key committee leadership changes from the 152nd General Assembly:
- Senator Marie Pinkney will lead the Senate Health & Social Services Committee
- Senator Darius Brown will lead the Senate Judiciary Committee
- Senator Kyra Hoffner will lead the Senate Corrections & Public Safety Committee
Additionally, Senator Russ Huxtable will replace McBride on the Senate Executive Committee, and Senator Spiros Mantzavinos will replace Gay on the Senate Rules & Ethics Committee.
Committees and committee assignments will become official when the Senate convenes in Extraordinary Session on Monday, December 16, 2024.
“Committee hearings play an incredibly valuable role in our legislative process, giving members of the public a chance to provide their direct input about legislation before it comes to a vote,” Sokola said. “I’m proud of the committee process that the Senate has developed in recent years, and know that we have meaningfully increased public participation through our adoption of a hybrid committee format.”
