Senator Darius Brown Releases Statement On Judicial Nominees

June 11, 2020

Senator Darius J. Brown, chair of the Delaware Legislative Black Caucus and chair of the Senate Judicial Committee, released the following statement regarding the three judicial nominations announced by Governor John Carney today:

“The judicial nominations put forward today by Governor John Carney represent historic steps in bringing much needed diversity to the Delaware Judiciary.

If confirmed, Deputy Attorney General Rae Mims would become the first African American judge to sit on a Court of Common Pleas bench below the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, while Deputy Attorney General Monica Horton would be the first female African American judge to sit on the Court of Common Pleas in New Castle County.

Mark Conner’s broad experience as a defense attorney also would bring a valuable perspective to Sussex County Superior Court.

I applaud Governor Carney for these selections and for recognizing that the time has come for a Delaware Judiciary that is reflective of both the citizens it serves and their values. I look forward to confirming these distinguished nominees later this month.”
